Preserving the past, baking for the future, building community around the wood oven.

At Bury & Essen, we create sourdough baked goods through a time honored process, and bake in a wood fired oven on an historic Cecil County homestead. 


We currently operate by preorders only and bake on Fridays.  


Preorders are due by Tuesday evenings @ 7pm and order pickups are scheduled between 1p-5:30p on Fridays.

INSPIRED BY THE PAST, FUELED BY THE FUTURE, STAYING PRESENT WITH EACH LOAF…

Many communities of old, and modern day cultures celebrate and gather round the community oven to nourish their families.  


Since the modern industrial era of commercial yeasts, refined sugars, shelf stable oils & ingredients, and preservatives, it’s been a no-brainer from a convenience standpoint to patron a grocery store for bakery needs.


Convenience rules at what cost, though?


As a nation, we are arguably sicker than we’ve ever been; especially our children.  


Emily birthed Bury & Essen out of her own personal health challenges of Crohn’s disease, gluten intolerance, chronic fatigue, migraines, and hormonal imbalances to build a community of healthy and empowered individuals around her wood fired oven.  

Community, for millennia, has been centered around slow food.  It’s time to bring the concept back and truly embody its significance to the human existence.
